A service to families with an adverse pregnancy diagnosis

Imagine a love so strong that saying hello and goodbye in the same day was worth the sorrow. ~Author unknown

Who we are

Perinatal Hospice is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide support, education, and encouragement to families who choose to carry their dying baby to term.

What we do

We make available the following services and consultations, as needed or desired by each family:
  • Childbirth preparation, doula service, labor/delivery support
  • Obstetricians, pediatricians, pediatric surgeon
  • NICU and pediatric nurses
  • In-home care, if appropriate
  • Psychologist
  • Clergy support: Protestant, Jewish, Catholic
  • Professional photography
  • Massage therapist
  • Hand-made burial cradles

How we do it

We use a multidisciplinary team approach. During the course of the pregnancy, the family may meet with any or all of the team members and choose which services they would like to use. The team may also meet together to discuss the care of the family and how they are doing. The referring physician is a part of the team and may use our services, even if the family does not make use of anything we have to offer. We do not ask the mother to change caregivers; rather, we will work with the current caregiver. We can offer suggestions on ways to help the family as they carry the pregnancy to term. There is no charge for any services we provide.

Why we do it

We believe that every dying person deserves dignity and respect, and that one’s value does not depend on length of life.

Arayanna died when she was born,

Reminding us how briefly we are here.
Years, like minutes, cannot last for long;
A note is no less precious than a song,
Nor for her early death was she less dear.
Now what we can do for her is mourn,
As she is salient only in our tears.
